HISTORY
David Bartley, Managing Director of Soma Power P/L began work in the solar industry in 1982, as an engineer for Tideland Energy in Brookvale, Sydney. Tideland Energy manufactured solar cells and panels initially for Navigational Aids, but quickly grew to be a major supplier of solar power systems for Telecom Australia.
In 1986, Tideland Energy was bought out by BP Solar where David continued to work on Australian and overseas solar projects. This work took him from remote cattle stations in the Northern Territory of Australia, to coastal islands around Australia, Papua Niugini and Indonesia.
In 1991, David left BP Solar to form Sunrise Solar, a distributor of BP Solar products. After several years of designing and installing solar and wind power systems, David acquired the manufacturing rights to the New Zealand brand Soma Wind Generator, from David Mackay of Soma Power NZ. The Australian company Soma Power Pty. Ltd. was then incorporated to reflect the association with the well known wind generator brand of Soma.
Soma Power P/L trading as Sunrise Solar have been operating in the solar/wind renewable energy industry now since 1982, manufacturing the Soma wind turbine predominantly for the Australian market, and installing solar / wind power systems locally in NSW.
